HERNANDO, Miss. — The DeSoto County Tax Assessor’s Office has announced that applications for the 2026 Homestead Exemption period will be accepted beginning Jan. 5, 2026. Local homeowners have until 5 p.m. on April 1, 2026, to file their applications at the Tax Assessor’s Office located at 365 Losher St., Suite 100, in Hernando.
The Homestead Exemption is a state tax provision designed to reduce property taxes on primary residences. While the benefit can significantly lower annual tax bills, county officials remind residents that the exemption is not automatic; eligible homeowners must apply in person to receive the credit.
