A man reportedly drove himself to St. Francis Hospital after being grazed by gunfire on Memphis’ Interstate 240 on Tuesday, as detailed by authorities. The incident occurred near Getwell Road, and the Memphis Police Department (MPD) responded to the scene at approximately 2:39 p.m. following a report of an aggravated assault, as mentioned in a WREG article. The victim told the police that he had an altercation with the driver of an SUV — the individual, who was wearing a green vest and appeared to be between 20-25 years old with black hair, fired four or five shots in his direction.
The man, who did not retaliate with gunfire, described the ordeal as a “random act of violence” in a statement obtained by Local Memphis, and still he managed to note a phone number from the assailant before shots were fired; however, a search conducted by officers in the area failed to retrieve any shell casings.
