Police in California say a traffic stop earlier this month led to the seizure of approximately 50,000 lethal doses of fentanyl.
The Santa Rosa Police Department said a patrol officer conducted a traffic stop at around 2:25 p.m. on Dec. 6 for a vehicle code violation on the 2500 block of Cleveland Avenue. As the officer approached, the driver allegedly reached toward the back of the front passenger seat, and “appeared visibly nervous.”
The driver, identified as 37-year-old Fabian Chavez-Carranza, consented to a vehicle search, and a Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office K-9 alerted to the possible presence of narcotics. A physical search of the vehicle allegedly revealed a package concealed in the back of the front passenger seat…
