Domestic violence survivors moved into new homes around the holidays

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Dwanda Singleton is doing some shopping, trying to bring back some joy in her life. Within the span of seven months, Singleton lost her mother, grandmother and brother. The pain cut even deeper as Singleton was living with an abusive partner.

“When I started going through so much loss and grief, I don’t really remember the days,” Singleton said. “I just remember numbing. When I landed in the hospital with yet again more bruises and black eyes, I just couldn’t numb anymore.”

Singleton felt as though she lacked a true support system. When substances couldn’t solve her situation, she listened to advice from her late mother to get out and get help…
