ST. LOUIS — St. Louisan’s like to say we invented a lot of things…ice cream cones, iced tea, air conditioning, hot dogs…none of which we actually invented but things we love nonetheless. One thing that actually, truly got its start here and is a beloved Christmas tradition – the Rockettes.
Before the Rockettes dazzled audiences under the bright lights of Rockefeller Center and iconic Radio City Music Hall, their kick line was shorter and the trip to see them wouldn’t have taken a 2 and a half hour plane ride or 14 hour drive from St. Louis.
In the 1920s, the Missouri Rockets performed at the Missouri Theatre on Grand and Lucas. Racking your brain for where that is? It’s not on any maps because that part of Lucas Avenue was renamed to Samuel Shepard Drive and the theater is now the Angad Arts Hotel…
