“Phantom Plea”: Court Shuts Down Ohio Mom’s Claim Of Secret Deal After Attempt To Shoot Teen Son

An Ohio woman currently serving time for attempting to shoot her 15-year-old son in his bedroom has lost her bid for a new trial, following a court decision that dismantled her claims of a botched legal defense and a “secret” plea offer that prosecutors say never existed.

In a decision handed down on Friday, the Ninth District Court of Appeals affirmed the dismissal of Alma Gray’s petition for post-conviction relief, ruling that her allegations against her former attorneys lacked any credible evidence.

The case stems from a violent domestic incident in May 2019. A grand jury indicted Gray on charges of felonious assault with a firearm specification and endangering children after she attempted to shoot her teenage son.
