Alabama seniors to lose Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare fitness benefit in 2026

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Seniors across Alabama enrolled in Medicare through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama will lose their fitness benefit starting in the new year. For many, the program gives them free or discounted access to a local gym or exercise class.

The fitness benefit previously provided Medicare recipients with an allowance to help pay for gym memberships and classes. With it going away, some seniors say they are feeling disappointed and frustrated.
