First Alert Weather: More patchy fog Saturday morning, big cold front arrives late Sunday night

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – THE NEXT 24 HOURS: The sky will remain cloudy through this evening, and the gusty southwest wind will lessen. More patchy fog will be possible early Saturday morning, with another mostly cloudy and warm day. Highs will reach the 70s, with a southwest wind at 5 to 10 mph.

THE NEXT BIG THING: We will have one more day to enjoy pleasantly warm temperatures before winter makes a big return. The sky will be mostly cloudy on Sunday, with highs in the 70s. A few scattered showers may return Sunday evening, but we will see higher rain chances with a cold front after midnight. A line of rain and gusty winds will impact the area from northwest to southeast between 2AM and 10AM on Monday. The main risk for any severe weather will remain well north, although we could have some gusty winds at times through early morning.

Temperatures will fall throughout the day on Monday, with highs in the 40s, and a cold north wind at 10 to 25 mph. Wind chills will be in the 30s, so bundle up if you are going to the Birmingham Bowl. Plan for freezing temperatures Tuesday morning, with lows in the 20s and feels-like temperatures in the teens and 20s. We will have sunshine returning on Tuesday, but it will be a cold day, with highs in the upper 30s and low 40s. Plan for another freeze, with lows in the 20s for the final morning of the year.

NEW YEAR’S EVE/NEW YEAR’S DAY: Mainly clear, cold, and dry as we count down to the arrival of the new year. Lows will be in the 20s on New Year’s Day, with sunshine, and highs in the low 50s. Dry weather will continue into the start of next weekend, with a chance for a few showers next Sunday as milder air starts to build in. If you are traveling to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, there will be returning rain that could impact the game on Thursday.
