KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A quick shot of freezing rain Friday morning may cause travel headaches for those returning home from Christmas Day get togethers. The threat has prompted the News Channel 3 Weather Alert team to issue a Weather Alert Day for the time period.
The set up in the atmosphere over West Michigan Friday morning is classic for a freezing rain event. A surge of warm, moist air arriving from the southwest in the wee hours of Friday morning will ride over the top of cold, near freezing or subfreezing air at the surface. The rising warm air will condense, creating rain that will fall through the cold layer near the surface.
