PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — One person is dead, and two others are in critical condition after an early morning house fire Thursday.
Providence firefighters were called to the home on Princeton Ave. around 4:44 a.m. for a reported basement fire that quickly spread, according to a post from Fire Chief Derek Silva on X.
47 firefighters were on scene as crews battled heavy flames, Silva said. Command, led by Deputy Assistant Chief Robert Butler, made the call around 5:41 a.m. to evacuate firefighters and switch to “defensive operations,” as conditions worsened.
