Local fire marshal talks holiday heating safety reminders

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The warmth many across Southwestern Virginia enjoyed on Christmas Day is on its way out of town, leaving residents with cold temperatures as the new year approaches.

As people combat the falling temperatures inside their homes, Bedford County Fire Marshal Leo George III shared some reminders to keep things cozy and safe.

“Let’s take a look at the way we heat our homes,” said George III. “So, if we have a fireplace, we need to get those chimneys cleaned. We shouldn’t use anything gas powered or kerosene powered in our homes because of the fumes that it puts off.”…
