This Day in History: Memphis public servant Myron Lowery born

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – On this day in history, 1946, Myron Lowery, the Memphis city councilman who became interim mayor, famous for fist-bumping the Dalai Lama, was born.

Raised in Columbus, Ohio, Lowery attended LeMoyne Owen College.

He landed a job at Action News 5 as one of the first Black TV reporters in Memphis. He went on to work at FedEx and launched a career in public service…
