‘Give Us a Break’ Second Ave business owner calls for relief five years after bombing

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Five years after the Christmas Day bombing rocked downtown Nashville, Second Avenue has finally reopened. But for some longtime business owners, the road to recovery is far from over.

Barrett Hobbs, owner of Doc Holliday’s Saloon, says while his building survived the 2020 blast, his business suffered years of fallout that he’s still trying to recover from.

“The damage didn’t stop with the explosion,” Hobbs said. “It continued through years of closures, construction, and lost revenue.”

Hobbs says street closures and restricted access kept customers away long after the bombing. Even when businesses were allowed to reopen, he says, foot traffic was nearly nonexistent because people couldn’t easily get to Second Avenue…
