Lax security measures have allowed the popular Roblox game-playing app and the Discord chat platform to become riddled with pedophile predators, a Lucas County father and daughter allege in a federal lawsuit against the two companies.
The plaintiffs, whose identities a federal judge has allowed to remain shielded because of the allegations’ nature, contend that the daughter, then 13, was groomed by a sexual predator posing as a peer on the Roblox site who then threatened to harm her family when she resisted demands he sent through the Discord app for explicit images of herself.
In the lawsuit filed Dec. 11 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and a statement announcing its filing, Dolman Law Group alleged that both companies’ popular websites are fertile hunting grounds for predators because the companies are loathe to implement safety controls that would decrease their sites’ participation – and thus revenue…
