DIXON, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Many folks believe the Byron Lady Tigers are the favorites to emerge as champions of the girls’ Dixon Christmas Classic. Anyone who watched the Byron-Pecatonica game Friday isn’t likely to disagree with that assessment.Byron ran away from Pecatonica winning 50-33 in a game that wasn’t even as close at the final 17-point margin. Byron led 28-10 at halftime and 40-22 after the third quarter despite going to its bench. The Lady Tigers played their strong 1-3-1 defense that was even more relentless and effective than normal with Macy Groharing leading the way on the point with her long reach to create several steals. Malia Morton also was big on the wing of that defense.Together Groharing and Morton combined to score 39 points (25 and 14). Many of their baskets coming in transition off of steals.Junior Ava Ackerman led Pecatonica in scoring with 15 points. Pecatonica’s record was 8-4 following this game.Byron also won a second game at the Dixon Tournament…..
