St. Louis aldermen open applications for interim sheriff amid key dispute

ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Board of Aldermen opened the application process for hiring an “interim” St. Louis City Sheriff on Friday, a contentious move in the showdown over who ultimately appoints the next sheriff.

Earlier this week, a judge ruled to permanently remove former sheriff Alfred Montgomery from office in the Missouri Attorney General’s quo warranto case, following several allegations of misconduct in office.

Now, the St. Louis Board of Aldermen and St. Louis Mayor Cara Spencer are in a legal duel over who picks Montgomery’s replacement.
