What a streak we have been on! Once again today, we shattered record highs across the Ozarks as temperatures surged into the middle and upper 70s. For fans of warm weather, we have one more pleasant day ahead on Saturday.
Tomorrow, records will once again be within reach for the fifth day in a row. I’m forecasting highs climbing back into the mid-70s for most locations. Skies will start mostly sunny, with clouds gradually increasing throughout the day.
A major shake-up in the weather pattern arrives Sunday afternoon. A powerful cold front will sweep across the Midwest, stripping away the warmth we’ve been enjoying. Temperatures could drop as much as 50 degrees, transitioning from record heat to overnight lows in the teens.
Along the front, I’ll be monitoring the potential for light showers and a chance of an isolated thunderstorm. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the eastern portion of our viewing area under a marginal risk for severe weather. I’m not concerned about widespread severe storms; however, wind gusts could reach 40 to 50 mph.
Behind the cold front, temperatures will turn downright chilly. Wind chills are expected to fall into the single digits Monday morning. Be sure to grab the coats again, as highs will remain below freezing all day.
The good news? We’ll slowly warm back to seasonal levels just in time for New Year’s Day…
