ST. LOUIS — More than seven months after an EF3 tornado tore through North St. Louis, the physical scars of the storm remain visible, and for families like the Holmes, the struggle to recover continues.
Clara Holmes’ childhood home was ripped open by the storm. Her family has received no financial assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and repairs are estimated to cost tens of thousands of dollars. Despite the damage and the plummeting temperatures, her family members are still staying there.
“So my family members are still not doing too good. They’re still staying in the house. In the past days, it been extremely cold. I had some concerns about my nephew,” Holmes said. “Due to the legacy of my father passing away two years ago, my nephew doesn’t want to leave home due to the fact that there’s possibly break-ins.”…
