Christmas tree collection across the DMV

WASHINGTON — For residents who remove their Christmas decorations right after Christmas and are looking for ways to dispose of their trees, you may want to keep them up a little while longer if you live in the District.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) announced that holiday tree and greenery pickup will begin on Jan. 2 and run through Feb. 28. Items will be collected from the curb and turned into compost, which will be available free of charge to residents throughout the year.

“By simply placing bare holiday trees at the front of their homes, residents are helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions, create a healthier environment and put those trees back in the earth, where they belong.
