FULTONDALE, Ala. (WBRC) – The Railway Marathon and Half Marathon will honor former WBRC sports reporter Christina Chambers on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, at Five Mile Creek Greenway in Fultondale.
The race includes a 50K, marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K, and 1 mile.
Every runner’s race bib will feature the phrase “Run for Christina.” The halfway turnaround point will have a special sign dedicated to her memory. For every runner who registers, $5 will be donated to her son’s education fund.
Chambers was an avid runner who competed in the Boston Marathon and other races around the country and world. She completed four of the World Marathon Majors, including Boston, London, Chicago and New York.
She took part in 5Ks and other runs around central Alabama, including the Mercedes race every year in Birmingham. Chambers was known for being up before dawn, running with her group.
The race, in her honor, will start at Black Creek Park in Fultondale on the Five Mile Creek Greenway, a rails-to-trail project located 15 minutes north of Birmingham. Runners will race through the cities of Fultondale, Gardendale, and Brookside on this relatively flat, fast course.
