Nonprofit ‘Miles for Military’ reunites soldiers with families at no cost

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Candace Ishmell wasn’t sure her son would make it home for Christmas. A last-minute plane ticket from Arizona to North Carolina cost nearly $700 — money neither she nor U.S. Army Pvt. 2nd Class Joshua Tillman had to spare.

Then Miles for Military stepped in.

The nonprofit covered Tillman’s flight, allowing him to reunite with his mother at Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Christmas Eve for the first time since July…
