Schenectady FD investigating 2 separate fires

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Schenectady Fire Department is currently investigating two separate fires that occurred Saturday morning. The fires were reportedly located on Hamlin Street and Wabash Avenue.

Firefighters were dispatched to 6 Hamlin Street just after 4:20 a.m. Upon arrival, authorities found heavy fire on the vacant building’s second floor and attic.

The roof collapsed during suppression efforts, which were made more difficult by heavy snowfall, the department said. The fire was brought under control within an hour and a half and no injuries were reported, according to authorities.

Firefighters were dispatched to the second fire, located on the 2000-block of Wabash Avenue, just before 11 a.m. Upon arrival to the apartment, units reportedly found smoke and a fire that extended to the cabinets.
