Snowstorm causes flight cancellations, closures in Albany area

ALBANY — Lingering snow flurries lightly fell in areas of the Capital Region on Saturday morning as residents worked to clear paths from their homes and municipal workers cleared streets following a snowstorm that hit the Northeast Friday afternoon into the night.

Snow totals varied across the Capital Region, with most areas seeing 5 to 9 inches, said Michael Main, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Albany. The Catskills and the mid-Hudson Valley saw the most snow, with areas reporting 6 to 12 inches, Main said. One exception was near West Shokan in Ulster County, where there were reports of 14 inches of snowfall, Main said.

As for Saturday afternoon, Main said conditions will be “cloudy and cool” with highs in the 20s. Going into Saturday night, conditions will still be clear, but it will get “quite cold” with lows in the single digits for most areas in the region, Main said…
