Family of Andrew Lansing files lawsuit against ODRC after fatal 2024 Christmas attack

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The family of former correctional officer Andrew Lansing filed a lawsuit against the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction following his death last Christmas, court records say.

According to the lawsuit, Lansing, represented by his widow Chun Wong-Lansing, was fatally attacked by inmate Rashawn Cannon at Ross Correctional Institution on Dec. 25, 2024.

The lawsuit alleges Cannon violated Ohio law and RCI rules and regulations while incarcerated, including threatening to beat his cellmate and possessing illegal narcotics. Lansing wrote a conduct report against Cannon after finding alcohol in his cell on March 13, 2024…
