BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – The holidays are ending now that the Christmas and Hanukkah gift-getting and purchasing have come and gone. Stores and the mall are expected to be busy with holiday returns today. Here’s the thing to keep in mind — some retailers are now adding an additional charge when returning items.
The National Retail Federation expects $850 billion of merchandise to be returned in 2025, and this time of year certainly contributes to that expectation. Seventy-two percent of retailers are charging for online returns this year, which is up six percent from last year. TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Macy’s are all asking for just about double digits in return costs. JCPenney is charging $8, and J. Crew is just below that at $7.50.
Furthermore, the NRF shares that retailers expect 15.8 percent of their annual sales to be returned this year, which could mean those return costs could be tacked onto your receipt…
