Flu cases are surging in Bexar County and across the state — and the strain of the virus going around this year could be worse than usual.

Flu season typically begins in November with cases rising after people gather for the holidays, but medical professionals this year are bracing for what could be a particularly rough season due to a new variant of the virus.
