A powerful Christmas snowstorm blanketed the Sierra and western Nevada with feet of snow over the holiday, creating white-out conditions in the mountains and a rare winter scene for lower elevations.
According to the National Weather Service in Reno, snowfall totals from December 24 through December 26 were impressive across the region, with some mountain locations piling up four to five feet of snow in just 72 hours.
