New bill would declare Fairfax Bridge closure an emergency to fund a rebuild

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — A Washington lawmaker has drafted a bill to try to pull from existing state revenue to try to revive the Fairfax Bridge along Highway 165 in Pierce County, after it was shut down earlier this year due to structural concerns by WSDOT.

The bridge had been in service for over 100 years before it was closed down in April 2025 by WSDOT due to almost 20 years’ worth of documented damage and deterioration.
