Brace for icy roads: freezing rain to hit region overnight, power outages possible

Active weather will arrive after sunset as a storm system enters the region. With cold air locked in place at the surface, precipitation will start as freezing rain across board, potentially leading to slick travel overnight.

Temperatures will eventually rise above freezing and most spots will transition to rain showers around midnight. Rain showers will then be likely in the Capital Region overnight, but patchy freezing rain could stick around in some northern locations through early Monday AM. Temperatures continue to rise into the mid-30s by daybreak tomorrow morning, bringing to an end the threat for freezing rain.

While many schools are on holiday break, some closings or delays could occur. See updates here:

Ice totals will be highest in Fulton, Hamilton, Western Saratoga and Warren counties where 0.25″ of ice or greater is possible. That could lead to slick roadways overnight and potentially some isolated power outages. The rest of the area could see up to a 0.1″ of ice, still enough to make some walkways slick this evening into early Monday AM…
