South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer had a full staff of assistant coaches by contract on Friday after the Board of Trustees approved the hire of Deion Barnes to coach the defensive ends and outside linebackers. On Sunday, the Gamecocks now have all of their coaches available full time.
Two of the new assistant coaches – running backs coach Stan Drayton and Barnes – both elected to continue their roles as assistant coaches for Penn State in the Pinstripe Bowl. The Nittany Lions quieted Clemson to win that game 22-10 at Yankee Stadium, and now the two will report to Columbia to continue with the Gamecocks.
