A strong cold front will pass through East Tennessee Sunday night into Monday morning bringing much colder weather, gusty winds, and chances for rain. The main impacts from this front will be strong to gusty winds and frigid temperatures. A Wind Advisory is in effect for a good portion of our coverage area from Sunday evening through Monday afternoon. West winds could gust up to 50 mph in the Smokies. Winds across the Plateau could top out in the 40 mph range. Knoxville and surrounding valley locations will see winds at most around 35 -40 mph. Winds of this magnitude could cause local power outages, cause unsecured objects to become airborne, and make driving hazardous. The strongest winds look to be Sunday night as the front moves through.

A line of showers will move in tonight, mainly after midnight and starting across the Plateau. A few higher elevation locations could see a brief transition over to a light wintry mix, but no meaningful accumulations are expected, and most just see rain. Rain will taper off from west to east, generally over by daybreak for areas west of I-75, and everyone should be dry by 9am.

The colder air will move in through the day Monday, with temperatures falling through the day, starting in the 40s and 50s before sunrise and ending the day in the 20s and 30s. Breezy winds will make it feel colder, with wind chills in the teens Monday evening. The Plateau will see near-freezing temperatures most of the day tomorrow. Elevated fire weather will be seen mainly for the eastern half of the coverage area due to the dry air and the gusty winds…
