Los Angeles County prosecutors have concluded that sheriff’s deputies were justified in the fatal shooting of a man who threatened them with a knife following an attempted robbery in West Hollywood last year. The shooting occurred on Gardner Street between Lexington Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard.
In a memorandum released Nov. 24, the Justice System Integrity Division of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office found that Deputies Daniel Ike and Brandon Campos acted reasonably and lawfully when they shot and killed 34-year-old Cody Dodd-Thompson on July 20, 2024. Prosecutors said the deputies reasonably believed deadly force was necessary to defend against an imminent threat.
According to the report, Dodd-Thompson attempted to rob a 7-Eleven store at about 5:22 p.m., telling a cashier he had a weapon and demanding money. He fled without taking anything after the confrontation, and a witness flagged down sheriff’s deputies…
