(KRON) — A preliminary 5.0 magnitude earthquake shook Northern California late Sunday afternoon, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The earthquake was reported in Susanville, a city in Lassen County.
The earthquake was reported at 4:41 p.m., with a depth of 6.4 kilometers. USGS later in the evening announced the quake to be a 4.7 magnitude.
This earthquake is tied for the second strongest of 2025 in California, according to USGS’s “Significant Earthquakes” page. Only a 5.2-magnitude earthquake in Julian on April 14 was stronger. The Susanville quake tied the 4.7 recorded in Cobb on Jan. 2.
