The Aurora native who became one of TV’s most loved character actors

AURORA, Mo. — Don S. Davis was a veteran known for playing military men and while he might not be a household name, if you watched movies or TV in the 90s, you almost certainly saw him and not realized you were watching a southwest Missouri native.

Davis was born and raised in Aurora, Missouri, and went on to appear in films like Look Who’s Talking (1989), Hook (1991), A League of Their Own (1992), and Con Air (1997).

Davis’s big claim to fame, however, is his work on TV—sci-fi fans will remember Davis as General George Hammond in Stargate SG-1 (1997-2007) and his dream-like role in the original FOX run of The X-Files (1993-2002), where he appeared multiple times as Captain William Scully, father of series co-lead Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson). He also guest starred on shows like The West Wing, Northern Exposure, and Supernatural.
