Suspect Arrested for Carjacking Washington State Trooper’s Vehicle and Leading Police on I-5 Chase in Seattle

A man identified as Alexander Eugene Smith, 24, is being held in King County Jail on a myriad of charges after a dramatic incident on Christmas Day that culminated in the carjacking of a Washington State Patrol trooper’s vehicle and a subsequent police chase on Interstate 5, as reported by KOMO News. The list of charges includes robbery, assault, possession of a stolen vehicle, attempting to elude police, and DUI.

The situation began to unfold early on Thursday when troopers were called to a portion of I-5 near Northgate Way in Seattle because of a person, later identified as Smith, refusing to leave the highway and running across the traffic lanes. After a lieutenant approached the scene, Smith forcibly removed her from her patrol car and proceeded to flee in the vehicle. Smith’s escape maneuver quickly turned southbound at high speeds, leading to police utilizing a PIT maneuver to eventually halt the stolen cruiser, according to Local12.
