Public murals in Southeast Portland serve double duty

Murals on buildings are in harmony with the City of Portland’s longtime encouragement of public art – but since the artists who create them usually get paid, there wouldn’t be as many of them appearing here and there in Inner Southeast Portland if they didn’t also serve a second purpose: There is a belief that their appearance may also discourage defacement by graffiti vandals.

The latest new mural has been painted on the south wall of the Pool & Spa House at 7255 S.E. Milwaukie Avenue in Westmoreland. The mural overlooks Julie Wallace’s famous Wallace Books next door, and was recently completed by “RingoArt.com”…
