Overnight shelters open in Clark, Clackamas counties as freezing temps loom

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — As overnight temperatures are forecast to dip to freezing levels over the next few days, both Clackamas and Clark counties are opening overnight warming shelters.

The Council for the Homeless in Clark County first issued a severe weather alert for their emergency shelter system on Dec. 26, extending through Dec. 30. During this time, they say shelter capacity will be increased and additional resources activated.

“The moment we know that it could be 36 degrees or lower, it’s not anything to play with,” said Brondalyn Clark, Chief Impact Officer with Council for the Homeless. “These are lives, and we want to make sure we take that seriously. So that’s why we respond so quickly.”…
