‘It’s such a small town’: Mint Hill shoppers dismayed by deadly Friday shootout

MINT HILL, N.C. — Shoppers like Melanie Hill witnessed the police tape, blocked roads and a heavy law enforcement presence that took over the Mint Hill Commons shopping center after a shooting Friday morning.

“I know the back way to come in, and when I pulled up, I just saw a bunch of like, you know, this,” she said, turning to face the parking lot full of police officers.

“And so I called my mother-in-law, and she kind of explained what was happening, and I was like, ‘in Mint Hill?’ It’s such a small town that you don’t really hear of that kind of stuff happening,” Hill said…
