LAGOS, NIGERIA – Boxing world champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a tragic car accident in Nigeria, his ancestral homeland, which resulted in two fatalities. The incident occurred when the vehicle Joshua was riding in collided with a stationary truck.
Social media clips circulated in the aftermath of the crash showed Joshua being helped from the vehicle by bystanders. While Joshua reportedly sustained minor injuries, authorities have confirmed that two individuals in his vehicle died at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released.
Adding a somber note to the unfolding tragedy, Joshua’s friend and long-time rehabilitation coach, Sina Ghami, had posted a photo on his Instagram story of the black SUV just hours before the accident. The image, tagged with Lagos, Nigeria, showed the vehicle that would later be involved in the fatal collision. Ghami, co-founder of Evolve Gym, has worked with Joshua for over a decade, alongside other high-profile athletes like Draymond Green and Le’Veon Bell.
