Mammoth Mountain ski patroller dies from injuries following avalanche

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — A Mammoth Mountain ski patroller who was injured in an avalanche on the mountain Friday has died from his injuries, the ski resort confirmed in a social media post on Sunday afternoon.

“With profound sorrow, Mammoth Mountain confirms that the Ski Patroller who was critically injured and hospitalized Friday has died from his injuries. Cole Murphy, 30, was an experienced patroller with a deep passion for the mountains and love for his career,” the ski resort said in a social media post on Sunday afternoon.

Murphy was one of two ski patrollers who were injured in the avalanche that occurred at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 26 at Lincoln Mountain. The patrollers were caught in the slide while performing avalanche mitigation work and were immediately taken to Mammoth Hospital…
