Louisiana cold front: Heavy winds, power outages, freezing nights on tap before NYE

A cold front brought strong winds, sporadic early morning outages and a temperature drop to south Louisiana Monday, and forecasters said temperatures will drop below 40 degrees overnight.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for much of the region until 3 p.m. Forecasters said winds could be between 20 to 25 mph with gusts as high as 40 mph. The New Orleans metro, including Slidell and the northshore, and Lafayette are among the areas under the wind advisory.

Some customers woke up without power early Monday morning across the region. Before power was largely restored, over 1,000 people were without power in New Orleans around Central City and the Garden District before power was largely restored to them by 7 a.m., according to Entergy’s outage map.
