Man pleads guilty to reckless homicide in McFarland woman’s death

MADISON, Wis. — The man accused of killing a 24-year-old McFarland woman in October 2024 pleaded guilty to first-degree reckless homicide with a domestic abuse modifier, online court records show.

James Barnes-Morris, 26, was also charged with first-degree intentional homicide with a domestic abuse modifier, but a Dane County court dismissed that charge during Barnes-Morris’ plea hearing Monday morning. His $1 million bail was revoked as well.

In October 2024, Brooke Strattan was reported missing from Madison’s west side. Her body was later recovered from a pond in the UW-Madison Arboretum. Prosecutors stated that Strattan’s body was found in the pond…
