Award-winning Verona superintendent urges fixes to state funding

When Tremayne Clardy became the superintendent of the Verona Area School District in 2021, he knew it would take time to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Unfortunately, society, I sensed, had kind of taken out their frustrations around the pandemic on scientists and educators,” Clardy said. “While we still had expectations that our students returned and did well, we also had to take time to care for one another.”

From establishing advisory councils to boosting mental health and wellness services, including a new employee health clinic, Clardy has focused on building what he calls a “culture of care” during his first few years as the leader of Verona schools.
