LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – (News release from City of Lubbock)
Effective January 1, 2026, Citibus will implement a new fare structure for Paratransit and On-Demand services. The updated fares were approved by the Lubbock City Council as part of the 2026 budget adoption and align with the Citibus 5-Year Service Plan adopted in November 2024. These changes are designed to support long-term service sustainability, maintain affordability for short trips, and ensure compliance with ADA-required service.
Why the Change Matters
- Service Sustainability: Fare adjustments help Citibus continue providing reliable service while managing rising operational costs.
- Equity and Accessibility: The new structure balances affordability for short trips with fair cost recovery for longer-distance travel. ADA-required service remains fully protected.
- Consistency with National Standards: The fare model reflects best practices used by peer transit agencies across the country, ensuring Lubbock remains aligned with federal guidance and industry benchmarks.
