The Prosper Independent School District Board of Trustees recently voted to approve the proposed annexation of roughly 220 acres of Windsong Ranch that currently fall under Denton ISD.
This decision comes after a petition from area residents and marks the first step in a process that will now be reviewed by the Texas Education Agency. The state commissioner will make the final call, with a potential effective date around July 2026.
Denton ISD, by contrast, unanimously opposed the annexation during their Dec. 9, 2025, meeting. Prosper ISD officials emphasize that approval by their board does not represent a final decision, but it signals the district’s willingness to pursue the request.
What This Means For Students
Many children in the affected portion of Windsong Ranch have been attending Prosper ISD schools since 2014, even while their homes remain in Denton ISD territory.
