Route 66 travelers can take home a piece of history in Sapulpa

SAPULPA, Okla. — Travelers cruising Route 66 through Green Country will soon have a chance to take home a real piece of the Mother Road.

As part of the Route 66 Centennial celebration, Sapulpa Main Street is giving away authentic pieces of historic Route 66 that were collected during the city’s downtown revitalization project. The construction replaced five blocks of Dewey Avenue in downtown Sapulpa, preserving sections of the original roadway rather than discarding them.

Starting in 2026, Sapulpa Main Street will give away three authentic pieces of Route 66 every week. The organization will post a time and location on social media three times a week, all along Dewey Avenue. The first person to arrive at the posted location gets to take home a piece of the historic road…
