Thompson School District adopted a two-year calendar for 2026-27 and 2027-28 that pushes back the start of those school years by a week from what it otherwise would have been in an effort to address concerns about overheated classrooms in August, members of a calendar committee told the Board of Education.
The first day of school for most students in the district for the 2026-27 school year will be Aug. 20 and the first day the following year will be Aug. 19 under calendars approved Dec. 17 by the Board of Education in a unanimous vote. Students in kindergarten, sixth grade and ninth grade will start a day earlier to give them an opportunity to familiarize themselves with their new schools before the rest of the students arrive.
The approved calendars maintain a weeklong fall break that includes Thanksgiving; a two-week winter break that includes Christmas and other holidays; and a weeklong spring break that matches those of the neighboring Poudre School District, Colorado State University and Front Range Community College.
