New flu variant causing increase in hospitalizations- NM in “High” category

Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – A new flu variant is sweeping across the country. The new strain has much more severe symptoms than other earlier strains and is causing a large increase in hospitalizations across the country, including in New Mexico. Health experts are warning parents to keep an eye on their children’s flu symptoms. They say the new variant includes very high fevers, as much as 104 or 105 degrees. Other symptoms include severe cough, vomiting, diarrhea along with joint and muscle aches. Several states, including New York, New Jersey and Colorado, are listed as having “very high” number of outpatient visits and hospitalizations. New Mexico in on the list of “high” numbers of cases.
