Eugene police arrest man after alleged Christmas Day cleaver attack

EUGENE, Ore. – A 28-year-old Eugene man was arrested Thursday in connection with attacking another person with a cleaver on Christmas Day at a residential facility, according to the Eugene Police Department.

Officers responded to the 4500 block of Willamette Street around 2 p.m. on Dec. 25 where a man in his 50s was reportedly attacked at a residential facility. Police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Adrian Francis Edwards. He allegedly kicked the victim, causing him to fall down a set of stairs, and then struck him in the back of the head with an edged weapon before fleeing. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Edwards was later located near East 44th Avenue and Hilyard Street and taken to the Lane County Jail where he faces charges that include second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. Jail records show that Edwards is in custody as of Dec. 29…
