Birmingham police chief cites drop in homicides, prioritizes domestic violence in new year

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett says the city has made progress in reducing violent crime, but he stressed there is more work ahead as the department turns its attention to domestic violence.

Pickett said lowering the homicide rate remains a priority, noting officers have seen success addressing violent crime overall.

“Our crimes against persons, or what we call violent crimes, we did great on that this year,” Pickett said. “And of course, we want to continue to work on that.”…
